Day 8

So today our assignment is to reflect and analyze the points, Mr. Schick put in his blog. We are all facing a lot of new challenges because of cyber school. Teachers need to find new ways for students to learn material and students need to be able to teach themselves. Students have a lot of work that they get and its hard to put in 100% on everything we do. I know for me personally, I have about 6-7 hours of work a day. I know that doesn't seem like a lot because that's about an average school day, but coming into this I thought it would be a lot less work. I applaud the teachers because it must be hard coming up with new lesson plans and not being able to help kids face to face when they need it. Although cyber school is a setback, it can be beneficial. It gives students the opportunity to divulge in their studies more because we have more time. It also prepares students and teachers in case we have to do this again in the future.

Day 7

The Plague of Athens was an epidemic that hit Athens in the second year of the Peloponnesian War. The plague killed around 75,000 to 100,000 people. This epidemic had an impact on the society of Athens. People started disobeying laws and lost belief in religion. This caused laws to become more strict. The plague returned two more times after the first and killed 25% of the population. The symptoms included: fever, sore throats, vomiting, body ulcers, insomnia, diarrhea, and extreme thirst.  Covid-19 started in Wuhan, China, and has spread worldwide. The virus is spread from close contact via sneezing ad coughing. It mainly affects older people and people with weak immune systems. Similarly to the Plague of Athens, symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Day 6

Phillip ii was kidnapped and held hostage in Thebes at a young age. There he got a military and diplomatic education.  In 364 BCE Phillip returned to Macedon. The death of Phillips two older brothers, Alexander ii and Peridiccas iii, in 359 BCE allowed Phillip to take the crown. In 356 BCE Phillips 4th wife gave birth to his son Alexander the Great. In his early years, Alexander was raised by a nurse and was later tortured by his mother's relative Leonidas. When he was 10 he started training his horse Bucephalus. By the age of 13, Alexander was being tutored by Aristotle. Alexander proclaimed himself king at the age of 20, after the assassination of his father. In 334 BCE Alexander began his conquest of the Persian empire. After he gained control of Persia, he decided to go after Darius iii. Darius was born in 380 BCE and was originally named Artashata. The name Darius was adopted sometime around 330 BCE because it was more dynamic. His empire was unstable and eventually got taken over.

Day 5?

Today we had to research Alexander the Great and his relationship with Bucephalus, here is what I found:

In 346 BCE, Philoneicus and Thessaly presented Bucephalus to Alexander's father. King Phillip didn't want Bucephalus because he was considered wild and unmanageable. Before he had sent him away, Alexander said he would pay for the horse if he wasn't able to tame him. Soon, Alexander noticed that his horse was afraid of his own shadow. Because of all the time Alexander was spending training the horse, they became very close. After the defeat of Darius, Bucephalus was kidnapped. He died in 326 BCE, soon after he was returned, although his death is unknown. Alexander then named a city after his horse; Bucephala.

Week one complete

Not gonna lie I kind of hate online school. At first, I thought it would be fun but I have been proven wrong. The workload isn't that bad it takes me like 3-6 hours to do everything. I do really miss coming to school and seeing my friends. My parents won't let me go anywhere, even to the store. I just want to be out of the house. Anyways I hope we come back soon because I miss JC.

Day 3

After the war and sickness that hit Athens, Socrates and Athenians started questioning their beliefs. After Pericles' death, they were concerned about the longevity of the democratic government and its values. Philosophers were starting to think about the origins of their beings and the world around them.  Philosophers based their philosophy on these two assumptions: the universe is put together in an orderly way, and subject to absolute and unchanging laws and People can understand these laws through logic and reason. A group of philosophers known as Sophists questioned people's unexamined beliefs and ideas about justice and other traditional values. Protagoras was a famous Sophist. He questioned the existence of Greek gods.

Day 2 of Cyber School

The video starts with the Spartans invading Athens and burning Athenian farmland. Athenians had to watch behind the city walls. Because they were stuck behind city walls, a disease started to spread around Athens very quickly. It was so bad that people stopped caring about religion and laws and didn't see the point in being morally good. Pericles eventually got sick with the plague.  In an attempt to cure the disease people relied on potions and magic. In 429, after 6 months of being sick, Pericles died. His death had consequences on Athens. Without a single leader, men fought to gain power. Pericles' successors followed what the people wanted just to gain power. There was a chance that Athens would turn into a mob-ruled land.

Cyber Day 1

Socrates was a politician who led Athens through much of its Golden Age. He had three goals for Athens: to strengthen democracy, hold and strengthen the empire, and glorify Athens. Direct democracy is run directly by citizens and not representatives. The Delian League is a group made from Athenians and some other Greek city-states where they helped other city-states be free from the Persians.

Carona talk

So I'm not really sure if I'm supposed to write a blog for today but I am just in case. We took the whole class to talk about the Corona Virus today which I actually think was a good idea. It was very helpful and I think it was very much needed. I know a lot of people aren't excited about these cyber days but I actually am. Even if we still have to log in to a class starting at 8, I wouldn't need to get up early to get ready and leave the house so I don't mind getting up at 8 instead of 6.
