Quiz Day

Today our classes were supposed to be 50 minuets long, but instead they were changed to 45 minuets because the prayer service went longer than expected. This didn't really effect our quiz though, thankfully. When we got to class and sat down Mr. Schick gave us like 10-15 minuets to study for the quiz. I'm glad he did because I was not as prepared as I thought I was. Its not that I didn't know the material, its that I had a hard time matching it up with the correct religion. Overall I think I did pretty good but I do think I tripped up on a few. Hopefully this will bring my grade up to an A.

Test Review

Today in class we reviewed for our test on Monday. We used Sam's quilt which was actually very helpful and i'll definitely use it when studying this weekend. I have a pretty busy weekend this week but I'm planning on making a quizlet of my own to study with and I'll also study with the notes we took in class. The quilt didn't take up the whole class so Mr. Schick told us about when he worked in the entertainment industry. Some of them were actually super cool and I didn't know he worked on so many movies. Overall this was a pretty good friday and i think I will do well on my quiz on Monday.

Religions

Today we finished the PowerPoint on the top 5 major religions. I knew most of the information for the most part which is good. Obviously I know about Christianity because I'm catholic but, in 6th grade I learned about Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism so that's really helpful for the quiz. Our quiz also got moved to Monday!! I'm really happy about that because if we had it on Friday I would not be confident in my grade. I think it's interesting how Buddhism if referred to as a way of life rather than a religions with set beliefs and rules.

Test Review

So yesterday we had a test and I got a 90/100 on it which is actually pretty good. So like we do after every test, we reviewed what we had gotten wrong. I had a shadow today and she participated in class which is super fun. She said she had a good time and I'm glad she did. I hope to see her at John Carroll next year. Anyways I'm glad that we reviewed because I now understand what I got wrong and I can use my tests to study for the final. We started learning about 5 major religions and we are going to have a test on Friday on them.

Test Day!

Today was test day!! I came in like 10 minuets late because I had an orthodontist appointment but I didn't miss anything because everyone was studying when I came in. As for the test I think I did pretty well. I was really busy this weekend and didn't get a lot of time to study which is unfortunate, but I think I did okay. I know I got the first question wrong because I accidentally put 7.6 million instead of billion for the worlds population but its okay because that shouldn't effect my grade that much. Overall I think I did pretty good and I'm excited to start a new lesson.

Jeopardy?

So today in class we rewatched the TedTalk video we watched from awhile ago. This was actually really helpful because now I understand what the video was talking about and absorbed the information unlike the first time I watched it. We talked about possible test questions so this video will definitly help me when studying for the test. We also watched last nights Jeopardy game and we knew some of the questions because they were about population and settlement. Changing gears a little bit I think I am going to do well on this test because I have the whole weekend to study and we have alot of things to study off of.

Finished Presentations

So today we finished our presentations in class. I think the group that presented today did a pretty good job and they came up with good solutions for Tanzania. We looked up pictures of Tanzania and I saw that it was a lot more developed than I thought it was. After that we graded ourselves and our group then we stuttered writing our blogs. I would grade my group as a whole a 97%. We did pretty good and we for the most part worked for all the time we were given, I just think we shouldn't have winged(wung ? i don't know) it as much as we did.

Presentation Day

Today in class we presented our slides about Vietnam and Japan. We went first and honestly I think we did pretty well. I think our group did pretty good because we knew our topic well and we were all prepared to answer question that Mr. Schick or the rest of the class might have had. If we do this again I think we could be more prepared by making note cards with as much information as possible. I think the other groups did okay while presenting today too. Overall this was a good class and I hope we do this again soon.

Finishing our presentation

Today in class we finished our presentations and we're going to present them tomorrow. Our Powerpoint doesn't have a lot on it, but we are mainly going to be talking by memory instead of just reading off of the Powerpoint. I think our group worked pretty well together and got a lot done in class. I am going to go in tonight and fix some things up and proofread our slides just to make sure they sound good. For tomorrows presentation, I will be reading the last slide on solutions for Vietnam. I think i came up with some pretty good solutions and i also put in solutions that are already underway. I'm not super nervous about presenting because I know a lot about my topic and I'm confident that my group will present well.

The Solution Project

Today we started a project for the second quarter. This is a project that we're doing in groups of 4 or 5. We have to choose a developing country and a post-industrial country and figure out solutions to economical problems that they might have. My group chose Japan and Vietnam for our countries. Some problems in Japan are the birthrate is shrinking and the economy is still trying to recover from World War 2. Problems in Vietnam are forrest degradation, pollution, and lack of education. I am excited to see how the rest of this research turns out and how well my group presents.

Kinda Pop Quiz

So today we started off class by having Mr. Schick tell us that he was considering giving us a pop quiz on population and settlement. Fortunately for us he decided not to. I knew most of the answers to the questions but the only thing that tripped me up was correlating the right countries to the questions and knowing the populations of some countries. This class was definitely more entertaining because we had a shadow. She would answer some of the questions and participate in class which is pretty cool. Finally we ended off class talking about final semester exams and things like that.

Easy 10 Points

Infant Mortality Rate: 32 deaths/1,000 live births (world)- this fact says that the infant mortality rate for the world is 32 deaths/1,000 live births. This is just kind of crazy to me because i know infant mortality rate is a big problem but that just seems like so many more dead babies than I expected.

Population below poverty: 15.1% (2010 est.) (US)- This says that 15% of the United States is under the poverty line. This amazes me because our economy as a county is doing well so I wouldn't think that 15% of the population would be living in poverty.

Military Expediters: 1.82% of GDP (2018) (France)- France is 60th in the world for how much they spend on military expediters a year. By knowing this you can tell that France spends more on education and other necessities rather than spending it on their military.

Population: 332,634 (July 2018 est.) (Bahamas)- I would expect more people to live in the Bahamas because of all the places to go and visit. The Bahamas has a lot of pull forces so it just interests me that more people wouldn't want to live there.

Airports: 63 (2013) (Switzerland)- Switzerland doesn't have a lot of transportation methods in the first place which I think is very interesting. I would assume that even thought Switzerland is a small country, they would have more than 63 airports.

Last day of Quarter 1

So today was the last day in quarter 1 and I'm not disappointed in my grade but I definitely think I can do better in this class. Anyways today we rewatched the video that we watched yesterday by Hans Rosling then took a quiz on it. Not going to lie I forgot about the quiz so i didn't really do that well on it but Im not stressed because the second quarter just started so I have time to make it up. After the quiz we went over the topic questions that we covered in this unit. We talked about how people live longer now because of medical advancements that we didn't have in the past.

Last Assignment!

Hi Future Me, I think it's safe to say that this year has been full of crazy new experiences for me. Going into John Carroll I didn&#...
